Though each story in the anthology is really good, the combination of them all being fantastic writers, and that most of them seem to hinge their storytelling on murder or death, makes the anthology both repetitious and lacking in any standouts.

All in all, this is a good but not great epic fantasy, nice light reading, unique only in that it uses griffins where others might use dragons and in some details of the griffin mythos.

I felt that while I appreciated the moral conclusions (and the subsequent questions the stories raise) were of interest, as storytelling, theses tales are only so-so examples.
