In short, if you are faced with the living dead and wish to make good your escape and plan for your survival, this is the book for you. If you are picky about your biology and have some concerns at the limited nature of the undead described, then perhaps not.

The real star of the book is not the narrator but the writing. Dakron is a poet and his skill with words makes this book shine.

I like a bit of frailty in my heroes, however, others prefer those who are more superhuman. This is a book for those who like larger than life, blockbuster heroes mixed with a fantastic action plot. I'll just wait for her next book.

Given what I've seen of Brown's writing, I suspect that this is just a setup for the twist of the third act but I can't help but wish there had been a bit of a hint of darkness to come.

If you like stories about mystic China or about magic in the modern world, this is probably worth a look, but it is not a stand-out example of either genre. It's a good idea but an unpolished execution.
