'Queen of Candesce' borders on being an essential read for a sci-fi fan that likes things a little dark and ideas that are second to none. It's not the best but certainly one of the better sci-fi books I've read this year.

If you liked 'Once Bitten' then I reckon you'll have just as much fun with 'Another One Bites The Dust' but it didn't quite work for me this time round.

If you enjoyed 'The Innocent Mage' then I think there will be plenty here that you'll like. For me though, I was left with the impression of a good series that could have been great.

I liked the idea behind Gary retaining his faculties, even when he was dead, and I also liked the way that the origins of the epidemic borrowed heavily from the 'Zombieworld' series (Dark Horse Comics) without actually confirming that this was the reason certain things were happening.

I could go on all day about how great this book is but I really should get some work done. Suffice it to say that Tor is releasing 'Inside Straight' as a 'Sci-Fi Essential' and I think this is a title that's well deserved.
