Dark Heavens: Await the Willing Dead

Written by Roger Levy

Average Score: 80(2)

Our planet is dying, literally falling apart, and the fatalistic population distracts itself from the horror by burying themselves in virtual-reality programs. But something new has emerged—a religion that promises an escape to heaven itself. But to get there, you have to die. Thousands of people at a time are promised heaven by the new prophets and delivered there with the complicity of the authorities. Darkly compelling, this is an apocalyptic tale of political intrigue, betrayal, and greed.

Despite the slightly upbeat ending, I feel that a couple of humorous touches along the way could have made the book more digestible without compromising the overall tone.
